Russian court in Crimea arrests Krym.Realii journalist Oleksina Dorohan in absentia

12.08.2025, 11:33

The Russia-installed Kyiv District Court of Simferopol (AR Crimea) has arrested for Krym.Realii journalist Oleksina Dorohan for two months in absentia, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center (CTRC) reports in a Facebook post, citing the journalist herself.

“Meanwhile, turns out that I have been arrested for two months in Crimea. The lawyer (once a prosecutor, by the way) is appealing something. The [Criminal Code] article is not listed, but the term is. It is easy to guess what warrants twenty years,” Dorohan noted.

The CTRC said that as per the Russian authorities, the court ruling is motivated by the fact that “Dorogan O.V., aware of the nature and degree of public threat posed by the incriminated offense, which may lead to imprisonment for up to 20 years, may hide from the preliminary investigation bodies or the court.” The occupation court saw no grounds for choosing a milder measure of restraint.

Oleksina Dorohan previously worked at prominent Crimean TV channels, was a correspondent for Ukraine's top TV channels in Crimea. She has been working with Krym.Realii since 2015 and is the author of the database project GRUZ-200, which identifies Crimeans who fought in the Russian army and died in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Earlier, Crimean Tatar citizen journalist Remzi Bekirov, who is serving a sentence in prison No. 33 in Khakassia (Russia), reported health issues and facing pressure from guards and the prison administration.
