Nova Post, Memorial Platform to give grants to children of media workers killed by Russia

06.06.2025, 16:03

On Journalist's Day, the Memorial Platform has joined Nova Post's initiative to support the children of Ukrainian media workers who lost a parent to Russia's war against Ukraine, as reported in a press release by the Memorial Platform.

The journalists died in the line of duty in 2014–2024 or were killed in the occupied territories.

"At least 18 Ukrainian journalists have died while reporting or under occupation since the beginning of the Russo–Ukrainian war in 2014. Some of them have underage children. We have decided to support the children of such deceased media workers and are offering each of them a grant on this year's Journalist's Day. We are doing this in memory of those who fought for truth," explained Olena Plakhova, Director of Reputation Management and Marketing at the NOVA Group (Nova Post).

Namely, Nova Post will provide financial support through the Memorial Charity Foundation to the following:

  • the son of Roman Nezhyborets, media worker from Chernihiv oblast who was tortured to death by the Russian troops in occupied Yahidne village in March 2022;
  • the son of Viktor Dedov, cameraman with a Mariupol TV channel who was killed in a Russian shelling strike in March 2022;
  • the four sons of photographer Maks Levin, who was killed by the Russian troops in Kyiv oblast in March 2022.

“Remembering the parents, we support the families – because memory lives in action. This is a worthy way of honoring the deceased and an example of how socially responsible business can contribute to preserving memory and justice. We at Memorial are open to such initiatives and partnerships to support the families,” says Gayane Avakian, co-founder of the Memorial Platform.

According to the Institute of Mass Information, Russia has killed 106 media workers since February 24, 2022. 12 died while reporting, 94 were killed in action as combatants or died by Russian shelling or torture.
