Health of three Crimean journalists imprisoned by Russia deteriorates

04.07.2025, 15:13

The health of three Crimean citizen journalists imprisoned by Russia has severely deteriorated. Namely, that of Server Mustafayev, Osman Arifmemetov, and Vilen Temeryanov, reports ZMINA, citing the relatives and friends of the Kremlin's prisoners.

The political prisoners are suffering from chronic diseases, most of which were a consequence of their time in prison due to inadequate detention conditions and the lack of proper healthcare.

Server Mustafayev suffers from numerous diseases of the musculoskeletal system, thyroid gland problems, heart pain, and vision impairment. He needs comprehensive treatment. Server Mustafayev is a citizen journalist and coordinator at the Crimean Solidarity initiative.

He was sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of participating in Hizb ut-Tahrir, an organization outlawed in Russia. No real evidence of his guilt was presented.

Osman Arifmemetov has kidney disease, osteoarthritis, prostatitis, and leg damage. He needs immediate medical attention.

Osman Arifmemetov is a teacher and citizen journalist who reported on the searches of Crimean Tatar households and trials of Crimean Tatar activists. He was arrested as part of the “second Simferopol group in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case” and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Vilen Temeryanov has lost almost all of his teeth and needs urgent dental treatment. Temeryanov is a journalist and streamer for Crimean Solidarity, covering detentions and political trials. He was detained in August 2022 and charged with involvement in the religious organization Hizb ut-Tahrir. His trial is ongoing.

As reported earlier, Russian prison administration still holds Crimean Tatar citizen journalist and activist Seyran Saliyev in solitary confinement. He has been there since July 2024.
